Bilingual edition devoted to the brilliant Cypriot scholar, teacher, speaker, author, journalist and painter Epaminondas I. Frangoudis (Limasol, 1829 - Bucharest, 1897). Decorated 122 year back by King Carol I in recognition of his contribution in the field of education, Epaminondas I. Frangoudis lived in Bucharest for 37 years, being one of the major representatives of the Greek community in the capital of Romania. A consummate speaker, the Limasol-born professor repeatedly expressed his gratefulness versus the “brotherly land of the Dacians.”
The volume encompasses all the six writings (mainly speeches) the Cypriot scholar published in Bucharest, two new texts and a study by Rita Dobroiu, dealing with the poem Frangoudis dedicated to Alexandru Ioan Cuza, the manuscript of which is to be found in the Library of the Romanian Academy.
In an extensive introductory study, titled “Epaminondas I. Frangoudis, a Great Representative of the Romanian-Hellenic Intelligentsia,” Prof. Theodosis Pylarinos of Athens reviews the texts authored by Frangoudis, insisting on his solid knowledge of the Antiquity and on his erudition.
