The second title of Cypriot literature, published this year in the „Library of Neo-Hellenic Literature” Collection, is an ample selection of poems by Mihalis Pieris (b. 1952), one of the most representative poets of the contemporary Cypriot literature, recipient of an important Medal for Letters in his country. The volume comprises sixty poems, in Greek and Romanian, selected from his main books. Guided by the poet, the reader begins a journey „full of events and experience” from Ephtagonia, his natal place, to Sydney, from Sankt Petersburg to Paris or Barcelona, from Malta to Granada, from Catania and Palermo in Sicily to Geneva, passing through Rome, Ferrara or Ravenna, from Thessaloniki to Athens, from Mycenae in Crete, returning, from time to time to his his island, in Limassol or Nicosia. A journey covering not only vast areas and places far apart, but also eventful historical periods. The foreword signed by the poet is a poem dedicated to Bucharest and other towns in Romania, „places that are so familiar, places whose breathing I listened, places to the historical rhythm of which I adjusted myself severat times.”
